View Full Version : OLC Google Maps - how do I get it working

Spam

When I look at the flight information on OLC I have the "Standard" map
feature selected. When I click on "Google-Maps (2D)" I get this
message:

"The Google Maps API server rejected your request. This could be
because the API key used on this site was registered for a different
website. you can generate a new key for this web site at
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/"

Anyone know how I can get this google maps working? Seems like a very
neat function.

Thanks,

Scott

I kept getting a parsing error in IE 8.0 and couldn't view the google
maps.

My eventual solution was to install Mozilla Firefox for a browser and
haven't had a problem since. This also fixed some formatting issues I
had with other sites I visit.

I get error messages when trying to use the Google Map option about
50% of the time with Internet Explorer. This is going on since at
least last year. I notified OLC few times about it but they claim
there is no problem...

All you need to do is remove the 3 from behind the www.
It works for me.

Removing the 3 was the problem with mine using Firefox. This is in a
former post from this Spring.

Hmmm...I don't even see a "3" in the URL. Here is an OLC example of a
flight with the google link activated.

the www3 address is most likely due to load balancing on the web host.
If the www3 address is not registered with google the API will fail.

Works perfectly in the Mozilla thing... The other "M" product may have
problems.

This is the error that I always get in IE8.0. According to the
Microsoft knowledge base for KB927917 this was a recognized bug in
prior versions of IE but was supposed to be fixed in IE8.0.

Oh well....I just use Mozilla

FYI - I'm running Vista with Service Pack 1, IE 8, and Google Earth 5.
I don't have any trouble clicking on the KML button and displaying
George's flight.

I can click on the KML button and save or open the .kml Google Earth
file....what doesn't work is clicking on the Google-Map (2D) radio
button to automatically display the google map in another tab.

I'm running Windows Vista Business SP2, IE 8.0, Google Earth 5.0

This is the same answer I got from the OLC team, but this is not the
same issue. There is no 3 in the url. The issue seems to be with IE.
But I am sure there is a simple fix for it.

I always get the "3" when going through the SSA server:

http://www3.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0/gliding/daily.html?st=olc&rt=olc&c=US&sc=&df=&sp=2009

I can get to the Google Maps 2d if I manually remove the 3 in Firefox,
but Opera can never see it.

Then forget IE, use FF and be happy.

FWIW I've used Opera for years, but its advantages are steadily decaying
and about now I'm being indecisive about whether to stick with it thru
V10 or become a FF fanboi. FF is pretty good these days.
